Vaughn's Dojang Instructors
At Vaughn's Dojang, we are very proud to be able to offer students an impressive group of talented, experienced, and dedicated instructors. All instructors are internationally certified by the World Tang Soo Do Association (WTSDA) and are required to undergo criminal background checks. Profiles of our instructors are provided below.
Mr. Frank Altiere
Sah Dan (4th Degree), Tang Soo Do
Cho Dan (1st Degree), Sin Moo Hapkido
Training at Vaughn’s Dojang since 1991; Instructing for over 17 years
Mr. Altiere is one of the small percentage of individuals training with the WTSDA to have attained the rank of Sah Dan, 4th Degree Black Belt. His masters training includes attendance at Masters Camp—an annual gathering of Grandmaster Jae C. Shin, WTSDA masters, and master candidates from around the world. Mr. Altiere is the Chief Instructor for the Cho Dan Bo Class at the Audubon Dojang. Prior to training in Tang Soo Do, he studied Isshinryu Karate. Mr. Altiere has been an active member of the Hapkido program at Vaughn’s Dojang since its inception. He is the dojang historian, Chairman of the Dragon’s Den Newsletter Committee, member of the Executive Committee, and the coordinator of numerous special projects. Annually, Mr. Altiere organizes the Dojang Spring Cleaning and a collection for the Bethesda Project—a charitable organization dedicated to helping the homeless of Philadelphia. He is an active participant in the World Ki Gong Club. He is a WTSDA-certified International Judge and a member of the WTSDA Region 8 Leadership Club. Mr. Altiere is a graduate of Edinboro University and has earned post-graduate designations as a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Associate in Risk Management (ARM), Associate in Commercial Underwriting (AU), Associate in Insurance Services (AIS), and Risk and Insurance Management Society’s RIMS Fellow (RF). He is the President of PMA Management Corporation. Mr. Altiere is married and has three children.
Mr. Sandy Lipstein

Mr. Lipstein is one of the small percentage of individuals training with the WTSDA to have attained the rank of Sah Dan, 4th Degree Black Belt. At Vaughn’s Dojang, Mr. Lipstein is a member of the Executive Committee, the Testing Committee, the Chairperson of the Special Events Committee, and was co-coordinator for Vaughn’s Winter Championship. Previously he taught an advanced gup class and was the Chief Instructor at the Phoenixville YMCA. Mr. Lipstein has been an active member of the Hapkido program at Vaughn’s Dojang since its inception. He serves as treasurer of the WTSDA as well as the World Tang Soo Do Foundation (WTSDF), and is a member of the Building Fund Committee. Mr. Lipstein is the leader of the Ki Gong Club at Vaughn’s Dojang and is the East Coast coordinator for the World Ki Gong Club. He is a WTSDA-certified International Judge and a member of the WTSDA Region 8 Leadership Club. Mr. Lipstein is a member of the board of directors of several non-profit organizations, including the Freedom Valley YMCA (vice chairman), Living Beyond Breast Cancer (treasurer), Turning Points for Children (treasurer), and the Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge. He is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School and was the Chief Financial Officer for Comcast-Spectacor for over 20 years. Mr. Lipstein is married and has three children.

Dr. Wayne Rosenkrans

Training at Vaughn’s Dojang since 1992; Instructing for over 15 years
Dr. Rosenkrans is the Chief Instructor for the All Stars group at Vaughn’s Dojang. Previously, he taught the 7:00 PM Tuesday & Thursday gup class, the Cho Dan Bo class, and a specialty class in sparring at the Audubon Dojang; he was also co-instructor with Mr. Lipstein at the Phoenixville YMCA. At Vaughn’s Dojang, Dr. Rosenkrans is a member of the Executive Committee, the Testing Committee, and is responsible for the collection and analysis of all student data used in studio planning. He has been an active member of the Hapkido program at Vaughn’s Dojang since its inception. Dr. Rosenkrans was previously responsible for the division assignments and head table as well as the souvenir sales for Vaughn’s Winter Championship. He developed the current Cho Dan Bo (Black Belt candidate) testing process used at the dojang. He is a WTSDA-certified Regional Judge and a member of the WTSDA Region 8 Leadership Club. Dr. Rosenkrans is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), has a PhD in Cell and Molecular Biology from Boston University, and post-doctoral training in cancer and radiation biology at the University of Rochester. He is a Distinguished Fellow at the Center for Biomedical Innovation at MIT, a member of the Program in Ethics and Systems Medicine at Georgetown University, Vice President Strategic Consulting at Fuld & Co, Chief Scientific Advisor at Expertech Solutions, and the Chief Applications Officer for SciTech Strategies. Previously, Dr. Rosenkrans worked for some of the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies. He is married and has two children, one of whom is an E Dan in the WTSDA.

Dr. David Painter

Training at Vaughn’s Dojang since 1994; Instructing for over 10 years
Dr. Painter is the Chief Instructor at the Phoenixville YMCA. Until May 2009, Dr. Painter was the Chief Instructor for the Special Dragons program at Vaughn’s Dojang where he was able to use his background in psychology to help develop the curriculum for this unique martial arts program for persons with special needs. Dr. Painter is a member of Vaughn’s Dojang Executive Committee and has held the position of Leadership Club President. He has been an active member of the Hapkido program at Vaughn’s Dojang since its inception. Dr. Painter is a WTSDA-certified Regional Judge and a member of the WTSDA Region 8 Leadership Club. He is a licensed and school-certified psychologist in Pennsylvania and has held leadership positions in the Pennsylvania Psychological Association. Dr. Painter earned his Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Penn State University, a Master’s Degree and PhD in School Psychology from the University of Pittsburgh, and is a magna cum laude graduate of Widener University School of Law. After having represented families and children with disabilities, he presently is an attorney and special counsel with the law firm of Sweet, Stevens, Katz and Williams in New Britain, Pennsylvania representing over 200 Pennsylvania school districts. Dr. Painter is married and has two children. His son Josh is an E Dan and instructor at Vaughn’s Dojang, and his daughter Rachel is a Cho Dan in the WTSDA.

Ms. Kristen Winsko

Training at Vaughn’s Dojang since 1998; Instructing for over 8 years
Ms. Winsko is the Chief Instructor for the 7:00 PM Monday & Wednesday class at the Audubon Dojang. She was an assistant instructor in various classes from 2001 through 2005. Ms. Winsko is the current Vaughn’s Leadership Club President and Secretary, is Chairperson of Vaughn’s Charitable Activities Committee, and is a member of the Executive Committee. She is Master Vaughn’s personal secretary and the Blood Drive coordinator. Ms. Winsko has been an active member of the Hapkido program at Vaughn’s Dojang since its inception. She has also led numerous Women’s Self-Defense clinics. In addition, Ms. Winsko is Counsel to the WTSDA and the WTSDF. She is a WTSDA-certified International Judge and a member of the WTSDA Region 8 Leadership Club. Ms. Winsko is a graduate of Villanova University and a magna cum laude graduate of Widener University School of Law. She is an attorney with Cipperman & Company LLC, specializing in investment management and software licensing. Additionally, Ms. Winsko is the captain of the HaveOne team in the Tri-County Women’s Soccer League.

Dr. Bradley Feuston
Sam Dan (3rd Degree), Tang Soo Do

Training at Vaughn’s Dojang since 2000; Instructing for over 11 years
Dr. Feuston is the Chief Instructor for the 6:00 PM Tuesday & Thursday class at the Audubon Dojang. He began his marital arts training in 1978 and received the rank of Cho Dan in Tae Kwon Do from Kukkiwon, Seoul, Korea in 1998. He was the PA State Champion in Tae Kwon Do Sparring, Senior Black Belt Division in 1998. At Vaughn’s Dojang, Dr. Feuston is a member of the Executive Committee, the Buddy Night coordinator for Vaughn’s Dojang, and was the Leadership Club secretary from 2003 to 2004. He has been an active member of the Hapkido program at Vaughn’s Dojang since its inception. He is a member of the WTSDA Region 8 Leadership Club. Dr. Feuston served in the US Army as an Atomic demolition and munitions specialist. He is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics, a Bachelor of Science in Physics (Honors), a Master of Science in Physics, and a PhD in Physics. Dr. Feuston has performed research at Argonne National Laboratory, and is currently employed as a computational physicist for Merck Research Laboratories. He is married and has one daughter. Dr. Feuston’s other interests include hiking, hunting, and motorcycles.

Mr. Scott Summers
Sam Dan (3rd Degree), Tang Soo Do
Training at Vaughn’s Dojang since 1999; Instructing for over 8 years
Mr. Summers is the Chief Instructor for the Tiny Tigers/Little Dragons program at the Audubon Dojang. He is a member of the Executive Committee, is responsible for assisting with computer issues at the dojang, and is a member of the Vaughn’s security team which provides security at WTSDA events. Mr. Summers’ interests in the martial arts extend to working with knives and swords, and he has attended a WTSDA Silk and Steel seminar (specialized training in edged and flexible weapons). Mr. Summers is a WTSDA-certified Regional Judge. He is also a member of local Boy Scout Troop 406 and is an officer on the troop committee. Mr. Summers has a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Millersville University. He is currently employed at Unisys Corporation as a Senior Software Design Engineer. Mr. Summers trains with his son Matt, a Cho Dan, and his son Chris, a gup student.

Mr. Rick Mentley

Mr. Mentley is the Chief Instructor for the 7:00 PM Tuesday & Thursday class at the Audubon Dojang with his wife, Mrs. Lisa Mentley. He served as an assistant instructor for the 6:00 PM Monday & Wednesday class from 2001 through 2004. Mr. Mentley is a member of the Vaughn’s Dojang Executive Committee, webmaster for the Vaughn’s Dojang website, and assists with the editing and production of the Dragon’s Den newsletter. He has been an active member of the Hapkido program at Vaughn’s Dojang since its inception. Mr. Mentley has attended a WTSDA Silk and Steel seminar (specialized training in edged and flexible weapons). He has competed and placed in numerous WTSDA tournaments at the local, regional, and world levels, and is a WTSDA-certified Regional Judge. Mr. Mentley has a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from Penn State University and an MBA from Villanova University. He has owned his own business since 1992—specializing in medical writing projects for the pharmaceutical industry. Mr. & Mrs. Mentley's son Ryan is an E Dan and their son Brandon is a Sam Dan in the WTSDA.

Mr. Ray Salas

Training at Vaughn’s Dojang since 2000; Instructing for over 25 years
Mr. Salas is the Chief Instructor for the 6:00 PM Monday & Wednesday class at the Audubon Dojang. Mr. Salas started training in Tang Soo Do in 2000; however, his martial arts training began in 1980. Mr. Salas studied Ji Do Kwan Tae Kwon Do and he also trained in Hapkido. He has over 25 years of total instructing experience, including 7 years of teaching Tang Soo Do. Previously, he was an instructor at the Audubon YMCA and has taught the Tiny Tigers/Little Dragons class. Mr. Salas is a member of the Vaughn’s Dojang Executive Committee. His talent and expertise have made Mr. Salas an integral part of the Hapkido program at Vaughn’s Dojang since its inception. He has served on the security team for Grandmaster Jae C. Shin at numerous events and he also provides electronic sound equipment for regional and dojang events. Mr. Salas is the clinical supervisor for a seventy-bed drug and alcohol treatment facility. He is a certified addictions counselor and an internationally certified alcohol and drug counselor. Mr. Salas is married and has one child.

Mr. Josh Painter

Training at Vaughn’s Dojang since 1992; Instructing for over 8 years
Mr. Painter is the Head Instructor for the 6:00 PM Monday & Friday Special Dragons class for individuals with special needs at the Audubon Dojang. He has experience in working with special needs individuals in a professional setting for the Chester County Intermediate Unit. Mr. Painter was the assistant instructor in the Special Dragons class under Dr. Painter before assuming Head Instructor responsibilities in 2009. Mr. Painter began training at Vaughn’s Dojang in 1992 when he was 7 years old, and shares the lessons and benefits of his experience with all of his students. He has a Bachelor of Science in Business with a concentration in marketing from Penn State University and is pursuing a career in public relations marketing.

Mr. Ken Manuszak

Mr. Manuszak is an instructor for the 7:00 PM Monday & Wednesday class at the Audubon Dojang, with Mrs. Winsko. He has been an active member of the Hapkido program at Vaughn’s Dojang since its inception. Mr. Manuszak has a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Penn State University and has worked as an accounting assistant for 2 years.

Mrs. Lisa Mentley

Training at Vaughn’s Dojang since 2000; Instructing for over 6 years
Mrs. Mentley instructs the 7:00 PM Tuesday & Thursday class at the Audubon Dojang with her husband, Mr. Rick Mentley. Previously, she was an instructor at the Audubon YMCA for an all-levels class and a Tiny Tigers/Little Dragons class. Mrs. Mentley has been the Dragon’s Den newsletter publisher since 2004. She has assisted at numerous local, regional, and world WTSDA events, and is a WTSDA-certified Corner Judge. Mrs. Mentley is a summa cum laude graduate of Penn State University with a Bachelor of Science in Finance and Bachelor of Arts in Economics; she also has an MBA from Villanova University. She is a financial analysis manager for a large multinational corporation. Mrs. Mentley enjoys training in Tang Soo Do with her husband and two sons, all of whom are Black Belts in the WTSDA.

Dr. Scott Thompson

Training at Vaughn’s Dojang since 2004; Instructing for over 2 years
Dr. Thompson is an instructor for the 6:00 PM Monday & Wednesday class at the Audubon Dojang, with Mr. Ray Salas. He also instructs the Saturday morning all-levels class at the Audubon Dojang along with his wife, Mrs. Susan Thompson. Dr. Thompson is the coach for the Vaughn’s Dojang Creativity Demo Team, and he is a WTSDA-certified Corner Judge. He has been an active member of the Hapkido program at Vaughn’s Dojang since its inception. Dr. Thompson has a PhD in Chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley, and is currently Associate Director of Medicinal Chemistry at Endo Pharmaceuticals. He trains at Vaughn’s Dojang with his wife, son, and daughter, all of whom are Black Belts in the WTSDA.

Ms. Jane Maher

Ms. Maher is the instructor for the Monday & Wednesday daytime class at the Audubon Dojang. Ms. Maher is an active member in the World Ki Gong Club. She has also been an active member of the Hapkido program at Vaughn’s Dojang since its inception. Ms. Maher has competed and placed at numerous WTSDA tournaments. She has an Associate Degree in Emergency Medical Services and an Associate Degree in Nursing. Ms. Maher has been a certified nurse since 1995 and she often volunteers at the first aid station at local and regional WTSDA events.

Mrs. Jenifer Mudd
Cho Dan (1st Degree), Tang Soo Do
Training at Vaughn’s Dojang since 2005; Instructing for 1 year
Mrs. Mudd is an instructor at the Phoenixville YMCA, with Dr. David Painter. She has competed and placed at numerous WTSDA tournaments, and was the 2007 Region 8 Senior Female Gup Champion. Mrs. Mudd is also a youth group leader at her church in Phoenixville. She is a cum laude graduate of Duke University with a Bachelor of Arts in Art History and Psychology. With over 20 years experience in the banking sector, she is currently an independent consultant in the areas of international microfinance and community development finance. Mrs. Mudd trains at Vaughn’s Dojang with her son Jordan, a Cho Dan, as well as her husband Shannon and daughter Savannah, both of whom are gup students.
